Arsenic
Arsenic is a chemical which has been widely used in industry. Very common uses for arsenic include pesticides, herbicides, and the toxicity of arsenic to fungi lead to the use of it for wood treatment. The use of arsenic for these products however, are declining.
Arsenic is notoriously poisonous. Arsenic has been known to have contaminated water supplies, poisoning and killing many people and animals who drink it. The ground, and water readily absorb any traces of arsenic, this is most present in second-world countries as in Africa.
Arsenic has been used in World War I, in the chemical composition of agent blue. Agent blue was used extensively in Vietnam to destroy rice. Destroying rice was incredibly difficult, as the seed was almost never destroyed. With agent blue we were able to completely kill the rice fields. Which makes sense, seeing as arsenic is used in almost every pesticide.
The toxicity level for arsenic is 10mg, while a lethal dose of arsenic is 60mg. Arsenic kills via the gastrointestinal system, and being tasteless and odorless, it is the perfect poison to use for any occasion.
Arsenic is not directly used when making a cigarette. During the process of spraying the tobacco leaves, arsenic is added to kill any weeds or insects that might come in contact with them. Arsenic is used to set up a foundation on the plant to make way for more powerful pesticides. Arsenic is not removed after the tobacco plant has been harvested.
